Photo of the Day - Day 53

Today was the IPAC Lieutenant Governor Awards presentation at the LG house.  As Program Chair of IPAC PEI I helped present the award to Wade MacLauchlan UPEI President and Vice-Chancellor.  There was a great turn out of people and the LG invited the group for refreshments after the award presentation.

Here are a few photos from the award presentation:

Photo of the Day - Day 52

Slept in today and went in to work this afternoon to catch up on a few things before a busy Monday.  I nearly forgot about the photo of the day until I was driving home.
The Scott Tournament of Hearts is finishing today and sadly I did not go see a game since I was away. I took a few pics on my way home of the Scotties tournament support, it was a very successful event and PEI did well but didn't make the finals.

Here are a couple of pics:

Beacon Signs - proud supporter

It was sad that all the promotion for the Scotties included the PEI team that came second in the Scotties last year (signs, tickets, magazine covers etc). They were the PEI celebrities and were favoured to win the draw however they got beat out by team Suzanne Birt (Gaudet). I was happy for Suzanne but it would have been great to see team O'Rourke back at the Scotties after how close they came last year. They are a young team so they have many years to keep trying for their win. :)

Photo of the Day - Day 51

Today felt like Sunday all day, Dee-Dee picked me up at the hotel this morning and we went out for coffee. At Tim's they have Sens (my favourite hockey team) donuts, I think this was pretty neat and maybe with all their fans eating all the Sens donuts their games will improve.

My flight left at 11:40, it was direct flight so I was happy I would not have to spend the day in airports. Although when I got to the gate they said the flight was overbooked by two people and they were offering a $200 credit if anyone came forward to give up their seat. They would not be able to get to PEI until Wednesday as apparently all the flights have been booked solid.  I was thinking that does not seem like a very good deal: $200 to miss your flight and not be able to get to your destination until Wednesday...
Anyways....it turns out two people did go forward and take the "deal"...thank God! A few minutes later they called me and another person to the counter and gave us new boarding passes. I asked why and she said we did not have seats on the plane until that moment! I was shocked! So if those kind souls had not have given up their seats I would be in Ottawa until Wednesday! Not that that would have been terrible but I have too much to get done the next few days that it would have been very inconvenient.

Here aerial pics as we approached PEI:

So when I got home Jerry had finished phase II of the Kitchen renos, he worked around the clock while I was away as he wanted to surprise me. He did such a great job!
He moved the kitchen cupboards to "open up" the kitchen and put them on the other wall. He ceramic tiled the small counter top and he built a tiny wine rack in the side of the cupboards. Plus put all the new trim and baseboards on etc..  Looks fantastic!
Phase III will be staining the cupboards and new counter tops etc..

The kitchen used to have cupboards that broke up the room - I like it much better open like this :)

The new built in wine rack

New ceramic counter top and the cupboards were moved to this wall.

I finished my course and it is my last night in Ottawa. I met some friends at the Career Bootcamp 5a7 which was held at the Honest Lawyer. What a fun bar, it looked like an amusement park with all the games and things. I went in the Hurricane Simulator just to try it....it was very neat!

Next Dee-Dee, Tina and I went to aux4jeudis (which I had no idea until my friend texted me that it is not the most trusting part of town) - so I had my guard up and the night turned out to be fun.

When I saw the spray painted sign I almost turned back but it ended up being a pretty fun time once we got inside.

Photo of the Day - Day 49

Tonight I met  a few canada@150ers at the Shore Club for drinks and supper. I had hoped to meet with the full group last month but my course got cancelled so I made plans to meet up with whoever could make it this evening. (Sorry you couldn't make it @tabtalks @apmichel) When I was in the lobby of the westin I ran into Robert our premier and Rory our Clerk of the Executive Council. It was really great to see them as it is not that often I run into fellow Islanders while I am out of town.

Here are a few pics at the Shore Club (Westin):

They spent over $5M in renovations - beautiful restaurant/bar

Fancy light - it was huge!

What a perfect evening at the National Aviation Museum.  Denise Amyot aka @damyot invited Ralph and I to attend the reception to celebrate National Aviation Day 2011. What a wonderful evening, it was a huge success!  Patrick was also there and when the three of us get together we always take a photo for Denise, as she was the one that introduced us to each other before we were canada@150 participants.

Here are a few pics from the reception:

I had such a fun time at the reception. Next Ralph and I met with Youki and Marie-Josee for supper at Milestones. It was so great to see Youki and MJ, I haven't seen them in two years...miss them so much!

Photo of the Day - Day 47

Not sure what happened to my photo of the day, I did it last night and looked at it this morning and it was gone...I will try to remember what I wrote!

Tonight was the #w2p mixer at Milestones, organized by @acadian_jl @stourang @suesanpd .  They did such a great job and the venue was perfect!  My favourite part was seeing people that I don't get to see very often (since I don't live in the NCR) and also meeting people in person that I follow and interact with on twitter. Absolutely amazing time, so glad I could make it.

Here are a few pics from the mixer:

Steff and I trying his "photo strategy for a perfect photo" - the photographer says hi and you say hi back...looks like they caught Steff in mid sentence lol

My new friend Mylene- what a super fun girl, she is awesome!

@pdauphin and @grande_bold (finally got to meet her in person)
- my fellow GOC LinkedIn group managers :)

Posing with @feeny_d - the GG in training!

Fun times, so glad I was in town to be part of #w2p this month! :)

Photo of the Day - Day 46

My first day of the course at Asticou went great, I love the class and the facilitator. Turns out I shared a cab with three others tonight that were at Les Suites, and they said it was the same price as Minto Suites. I had checked in with Minto Suites last night and they couldn't find my reservation with my confirmation number. Turns out I booked at Les Suites by accident and had no idea...so the catch is if I change hotels in the morning, I won't get charged double. Very inconvenient but oh well...it was great that I at least found out before it was too late...their phone numbers are one number away from each other..silly error!

Here is a photo crossing the bridge from Gatineau to Ottawa:

So I met @acadian_jl and Martin this evening for drinks, fun times! Here is a pic of Jer at Vineyards and also some pretty bottles:
Jer taught me some of the features of my camera which I had no idea how to use, I did not realize all the many features. He also removed the "Go on a diet" app that kept popping up on my phone constantly. Thanks so much!!

@acadian_jl posing with my new camera settings :)

This place had amazing wine...loved the riesling the best...however this picture is not of wine...just fancy old port...which I took the liberty of organizing in order of date after I took this picture :)

Photo of the Day - Day 45

What a great day...except I can hardly keep my eyes open at the moment. Last night I couldn't sleep as it was storming and I kept waking up every hour afraid that I would oversleep and miss my flight. I called a cab as of course there was another storm and huge drifts on the road, and the cab picked me up this morning at 4:10.  I arrived in Ottawa at 8:30 this morning and went to breakfast with Dee-Dee and her daughter Devin and then we went back to her place.

Here is a pic of her 40 lb cat Tickles:

Next we were out and about and I noticed these sneakers on the wire, I have no idea what the significance is but I often see one pair of shoes on a wire, this one had several. They were DC and Vans skater shoes...strange that they would want to part with these nice sneakers by throwing them up on the electrical wire...

I had a really great day with Dee-Dee and tonight Liz and I went to Winterlude and Green Papaya (I tried deep fried tofu for the first time - not intentionally...I thought I ordered normal tofu but it came out looking like beige fluffy marshmallows...the rest of the supper was great but wasn't that fond of the deep-fried "marshmallows" :)

Here is a pic at winterlude that made me sad, it was a sculpture of a spider and a school of fish  that crumbled due to the rain and mild temps...it is amazing to see all the hard work and effort put in by the sculptors but sad to see their work melt away...

Photo of the Day - Day 44

Today was the big sewing day where I learned to sew roman blinds.  I was a bit traumatized in high school sewing class as I always had either a broken finger or wrist due to rugby, basketball, soccer. So I wasn't a very good sewer in sewing class and never tried it again - until today :)

My friend Heather recently started quilting and sewing so she invited me to come make curtains with her. It was a really fun day and I learned a lot. I may take another class sometime in the future.

Here is Heather giving me a demo of how to use my sewing machine, including how to turn it on :)

Heather starting her Roman blinds

My cute little sewing machine did well but the material was too thick....

So I switched to the Cadillac of sewing machines
Here are my Roman blinds (Deuce approves)..I will post a picture when I get
a chance to put them up on the window.

Overall very fun day and happy with my new roman blinds :)
